AF’s interdisciplinairy and cross-media practice has been in the making for over a decade.
Agence Future grew from an independent project by Bram Goots (photographer) and Maya van Leemput (futurist) that started in 01999. During the first years of the millennium, the two travelled in 25 countries, spread over five continents to conduct interviews with more than 300 people who shared their ideas, images and feelings about personal, local and global futures. It is now more than ten years ago the team was on the road with recumbent bicycles, carrying the required technology for recording and distributing their work, interviewing in ten European countries.
This young man in Brussels explains why we do it:
Agence Future (AF) was founded as an independent non-profit organisation in 2011.
Our stated goal is to support foresight and futures exploration in Flanders, Belgium, Europe and the world and to involve a diverse public in foresight activities. AF pursues projects, activities, research, events, communication, education, creation, production, experiment and publication on the subject of (images of the) futures.
Adhering members contribute to the network and creative production as well as the day-to-day dealings and projects of the association. With commissioned activities and productions or collaborative projects, AF is involved in various partnerships.
In the first decade of the millennium, Goots and Van Leemput produced a range of artistic, academic and journalistic projects building on the original Agence Future project: the Futurescales exhibition (02004) and the Futurescales video-documents (Antwerp, 02006 and Brussels, 02007), the O58 video-document (02008) with witnesses of the world-fair in Brussels of 01958 and the television documentary Toekomst(EN)-Avenir(S) (02009) based on conversations with seven future oriented professionals from the fields of art, science and business in Belgium.
